There’s no shortage of travel gadgets and equipment out there that are incredibly useful, novelty items or just plain absurd. For instance, the Daily Mail newspaper ranked battery-powered air conditioned pants on their list of the best and worst travel gadgets. The concept is exactly what it sounds like. Just power up the little fans and your lower body enjoys instant air-conditioning. You can decide for yourself if they were voted as one of the best or worst.

But of all the gadgets out there, which ones do you really need? Here’s a round-up of travel gadgets you may not want to leave home without.

LG V10

A modern, quality smartphone does more than just keep you connected to friends and family while traveling. It should also take smooth, quality videos and clear photos with a screen big enough to enjoy movies and entertainment. The LG V10 smartphone from T-Mobile features a steady record option that lets you record video on the go, even with bumps along the way. You can also adjust video speed, background music and lighting filters to take fantastic-looking videos. Need more editing power? An internal Quick Video Editor makes it easy to trim and tweak your videos before sending onto friends.

SteriPen

The handy SteriPen stick can purify your drinking water in 48 seconds whether you’re headed to a remote area, going camping or just want to ensure the best water quality. Just stick it directly into your canteen, water bottle or other container and start purifying. The SteriPen helps avoid water-borne illnesses and promises to work faster and easier than pumps or filters.

Corsair Flash Survivor

Backup your photos, videos and files on the go with the Corsair Flash Survivor. This gadget can be used for either leisure or adventure travel and can take a beating. It is shockproof, waterproof, and even dustproof. It’s perfect for travelers going on a long trip or for those who like to take a lot of photos and videos — it can store up to 256 GB. Best of all, it doesn’t take up much room in your purse, carry-on or in your pocket.

Power Cube

Ambitious travelers with a bucket list of countries on their agenda shouldn’t leave home without the PowerCube. The PowerCube is like a tiny power strip that comes with international adapters, as well as one you can use at home. The simple design is a basic cube with USB ports and adapter plugs.

Scrubba Wash Bag

Scrubba was created by travelers with travelers in mind. This little wash bag works like a washboard for a machine-quality wash. Fill it up with water, your favorite cleaning liquid and your clothes, then roll and clip. The technique relies on squeezing as much air out as possible and letting the bag’s internal scrubbers get to work. Travelers can also opt for the Scrubba Wash & Dry Kit by wrapping and pressing clothes in a towel before hanging on a travel clothesline. It’s about as close as you’ll come to an efficient, tidy and portable wash and dry solution short of doing it all by hand.
